This review is from: LIBERTY 129848 Hook Rail/Coat Rack with 5 Flared Tri Hooks, 27-Inch, White and Satin Nickel, Flat White and Satin Nickel (Tools & Home Improvement) See the photos I posted. For the price, the rack is very well made and finished. Nice, thick strong white finish. The hooks are slender and elegant, with nice satin finish. This is a very nice looking rack! My one complaint is that the mounting design limits your options – in my opinion – to mounting on the solid wood crosspiece on the back of a door or onto a solid wood wall (NOT 1/4 inch 4 x 8 sheet paneling!). There are only two mounting holes, and you are given two white-coated mounting screws (it wouldn’t have killed them to throw in one extra because these are not even close to high-strength steel fasteners; it is easy to damage the slots if your screwdriver slips). The mounting hole centers are 25-3/8 inches apart. Wall studs are 16 inches or 24 inches apart (usually 16 inches)… no match there. To wall-mount using the white screws you would have to use compression-type anchors. Since drywall is basically crumbly chalk between two sheets of butcher paper, the anchors are going to come loose over time. Throwing coats on the rack and snatching them off exerts forces and movement that will loosen the anchors. I just wish the racks had the usual holes with wood plugs to cover up the head of the fastener. Then you could use molly bolts, which would be reasonably secure, and which allow you to tighten them up if they start getting loose. If you do decide to mount this on drywall, I would recommend using the fat, threaded anchors made especially for drywall (two brand names: EZ-Ancor, Zip-It). These will last longer than the cheapo plastic expansion anchors, but even so they are likely to loosen eventually. Regardless of the type of hole, the rack would be much more secure and have a much higher weight capacity if the manufacturer had drilled three or four mounting holes instead of just two… but that would take away from the elegant look of the product. 0 96 of 112 people found the following review helpful Hangs my coats like WHOA!, By Pragmatist (New York, NY) – See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This review is from: LIBERTY 129848 Hook Rail/Coat Rack with 5 Flared Tri Hooks, 27-Inch, White and Satin Nickel, Flat White and Satin Nickel (Tools & Home Improvement) This is the finest coat hanging device I have ever purchased with my own money. It looks nice, was easy to install, and does the job better than my manservant Jeffries who tires easily when forced to stand against the wall. I would have given this 5 stars if it heated my coats. My personal physician tells me I have “cold shoulders”. Also on principle, its a set of hooks on a plank of wood. Five stars seems far too grandiose. This review is from: LIBERTY 129848 Hook Rail/Coat Rack with 5 Flared Tri Hooks, 27-Inch, White and Satin Nickel, Flat White and Satin Nickel (Tools & Home Improvement) I put it up with drywall anchors and it holds 5 coats. The hooks are the right distance apart so I can see them all and hang one up without pushing the others aside too much. I love ordering something basic and it just WORKS with no weird surprises… 0 |
